Barba is a project from Cargo Collective by Ellen Conder – an illustration Student from London.
‘Whilst being influenced by Saul Bass, Jonas Bergstrand and Mary Blair, I wanted to look at the facial friend that is the beard. I mainly work with quick sweeping lines making textures with black ink. Usually I verge towards slightly exaggerated features and with the topic in hand, they paired together perfectly. I also find myself naturally attracted to drawing angry, sad and aggressive faces due to my own moody appearance. These expressions allow me to use lines in a quick sharp way since I never spend more than ten minutes on an image – sometimes the quicker the drawing the more satisfying it is.’
